ACM SIGGRAPH Logo Usage Policy

Version 9, approved by ACM SIGGRAPH EC, June 2002.

ACM SIGGRAPH trademarks (including the name SIGGRAPH or ACM SIGGRAPH, the organizational logos, and all conference logos) are valuable legal assets of ACM. Discussion of any use of the SIGGRAPH name or logos should be immediately brought to the attention of the ACM SIGGRAPH President.

The policy regarding usage of the ACM SIGGRAPH logo ("logo") and the logo for the SIGGRAPH conference from year to year ("conference logo") shall be as follows:

  1. In all cases, use of the logo or conference logo must correspond to the prescribed logo treatment. The logo and the conference logos are trademarks of ACM. Both the logo and the conference logo are available in one-color or four-color treatments; no variant treatments are acceptable on the part of any user of the logos. The logo treatment requires the words "ACM SIGGRAPH" to appear near the logo, typically immediately below or to the right.

  2. All units of ACM SIGGRAPH and all ACM SIGGRAPH Chapters are entitled to use the logo per the treatment guidelines to directly promote their event and/or directly describe their activities. This includes, for example:

In the course of using the logo or conference logo thusly, it may be necessary to grant rights to it to other organizations such as news organizations and/or magazines. This is permitted for the above-mentioned promotional use.

  3. Individual members of ACM SIGGRAPH are permitted to use the logo as part of a statement indicating their membership, such as "ACM SIGGRAPH member". Individuals who were contributors to the annual conference are permitted to use the conference logo as part of a statement factually describing their contribution, such as "SIGGRAPH XX Paper Author."

  4. The conference logo may be used in advance of the conference by conference exhibitors in order to publicize their presence or the presence of their products at the upcoming conference, for example, "Come see this product at SIGGRAPH XX". Institutions and companies are allowed to use the conference logo in order to publicize the presence of work they have done in an upcoming annual conference, e.g., "This project will be shown at SIGGRAPH XX".

  5. Organizations with which ACM SIGGRAPH has established a joint membership may use the logo for the direct purpose of promoting the joint membership.

  6. ACM may use the logo or conference logo in the course of describing ACM.

  7. Only those uses listed in this policy, or variances approved as described below, are permitted; therefore, all other uses are forbidden. An example of some uses specifically prohibited under this policy are given here; note that, in all these examples, it is only use of the logo or conference logo that is prohibited. These examples in text-only form might all be factual and thus reasonable, and such text-only statements are not within the scope of this policy.

Examples of usage which are strictly prohibited under this policy include:

Such usages require a policy variance (see below).

  8. Variations from Policy

If a conference contributor wants to use a variant of the conference logo in a conference program, permission may be granted by the Conference Chair.

If a committee or chapter of ACM SIGGRAPH feels that a variant use of a conference logo is needed, they should bring their request for a variance to the Conference Advisory Group (CAG). If the CAG feels the requested variance is in line with the spirit of this policy, the CAG may grant a variance; if they do, they shall inform the ACM SIGGRAPH Executive Committee (EC) that such a variance has been granted. The CAG shall take the EC's advice as to whether future similar variances are appropriate. The CAG may also turn down a request for variance; or, they may refer it to EC for consideration.

If a committee or chapter of ACM SIGGRAPH feels that a variant use of the ACM SIGGRAPH logo is needed, they should bring their request for a variance to the EC.

All other requests for any use of a conference logo or the ACM SIGGRAPH logo, or of the name SIGGRAPH or ACM SIGGRAPH (for example, on a product or web site), should be brought to the EC by the ACM SIGGRAPH President.

Obsolete Logos

This section contains logos that are no longer in use.

ACM-SIGGRAPH-Logo.whitebg.eps

This is the previous ACM SIGGRAPH organization logo, presented with white ink in the interior. As such, it is suitable only for use on a white background or with a white background diamond placed behind the logo.

ACM-SIGGRAPH-Logo.clear.eps

This is the previous ACM SIGGRAPH organization logo, revamped such that the white areas shown at right are all clear. This can be used over any background on which it reads clearly (e.g., black).

Previous ACM SIGGRAPH Logo

This is a 242 (w) x 247 (h) GIF file of the previous ACM SIGGRAPH logo. It is a transparent GIF, but the edges have been anti-aliased over white, so it's intended for use over a white background. This is the file referenced at left.

ACM-SIGGRAPH-Logo.pantone.ai

This is a version of the EPS file (also Adobe Illustorator file) for the previous ACM SIGGRAPH logo which is specified with the relevant Pantone colors. The selected Pantone colors for the ACM SIGGRAPH logo are Pantone 1797 CVU for the red color, and Pantone 661 CVU for the blue color.

The words ACM SIGGRAPH should appear in conjunction with the logo, set in Helvetica Bold or Helvetica Bold Oblique. The words may appear below or next to the logo as appropriate.

ACM-SIGGRAPH-Credit.blackbg.eps

This is a simplistic but acceptable example of a logo treatment. The clear logo was placed on a black background and ACM SIGGRAPH was set in Helvetica below it using a light gray.

Note that in many black-background usages, a white diamond is placed behind and slightly around the logo instead of this clear-on-black treatment.

ACM-SIGGRAPH-Logo.mono.eps

Here is the EPS file for the one-color version of the ACM SIGGRAPH logo.

ACM-SIGGRAPH-Logo.mono.gif

Here is a 122 (w) x 125 (h) gif file of the one-color version of the ACM SIGGRAPH logo. This is the file referenced at left.

ACM-SIGGRAPH.mono+text.eps

This is an example of a more specialized logo treatment for a one-color use of the logo, including the name of the organization.

ACM-SIGGRAPH-30-Logo.eps

This file provides, in EPS format, the ACM 30th anniversary logo as drawn over a white background in several color treatments. This logo was used for the 30th anniversary year from SIGGRAPH 99 to SIGGRAPH 2000. The organization logo should be reproduced in 4-color process inks unless it is needed in such a small size that it won't be legible in color; in this case the smallest, black-and-white logo at the bottom is acceptable. The intermediate size with the red-only square may be used when the logo is used in color but small, although it's use is discouraged.

This logo should be used for any ACM SIGGRAPH-related activities that occur during, or merchandise that is created during, ACM SIGGRAPH's 30th anniversary (the period of time from the SIGGRAPH '99 conference until the SIGGRAPH 2000 conference). Usage of this logo should end in August 2000.

In most usages, the words "ACM SIGGRAPH" should appear in conjunction with the logo (typically, immediately below it). ACM SIGGRAPH is set in Helvetica Bold or Helvetica Bold Oblique.
